Wednesday 26th July – windsurf **** Landguard carpark – cloudy

26.04 kt. max., 22.89 kt. ave., 14.88 kt. hr., 20.22 kt mile, 50 km., 13.12 alpha.

The original forecast was a nice SW wind but raining moving in from the west at midday so I decided to head out early. At the cliff top at the end of my road I decided to head to The Manor for a change as I didn’t think there would be anyone at The Dip and I thought Al Wiz might be out.
I parked at the free Landguard Reserve carpark and as it was a cloudy day I had the whole groyne to myself. The tide was low and with wind gusting to 16mph I rigged big and it was right for the 2hrs 15mins I was out, increasing as the day went on. I usually go for an hour here sailing the one and a half miles out to Wadgate Post which is what I did today, slowly beating down the coast to the end of the beach. Sadly, the sea was a lumpy mess so going fast was challenging especially on the 310 which is a nice lightwind shortboard but a real pig to gybe:( I had a broad run back chasing some yachts before heading ashore for a chocolate bar. It was nice to see some elderly Grandparents on the beach having fun with their young grandchildren:)
I decided to have another go and did another ten miles! Getting my fastest speed just over 26kts:) A huge container ship left the docks which killed the wind for awhile!.With the wind increasing and the sea lumping up even more I decided to call it a day. I looked into The Dip to find 4 sailors out on 6m and the sea looked a little smoother but it was nice to try somewhere different. Wind for a few days but where to go as it might be WSW, perhaps Levington tomorrow and Point Clear on Friday?
I really need to replace my damaged Tushingham Lightning 7.8 – can anyone help?
